2.Chemically Defined Media : Synthetic & Non-Synthetic Media

Chemically Defined Media :
Chemically defined media are those media which are totally based on chemicals which are either Organic or Inorganic compounds which are known by Molecular Formula such type of medium called as "Chemically Defined Media".
A chemically defined medium for the growth of suitable organism for suitable environment in Vitro where cell culture & the chemical compounds are well known such medium contains Carbohydrates Source, amino acids, Vitamins, Nucleic acid bases & mineral salts.
The chemically defined media further goes in two categories
1.Synthetic Media
2.Non-Synthetic Media
The constiuents of chemically defined media includes a basal media such as DMEM, F12 or containing amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, buffers, antioxidants & emergy source which supplemented with recombinant albumin, chemically defined lipids, recombinant insuline or zinc.
When the complete chemical composition of medium is known then & then only it is called as Chemically Defined Medium this is the prior condition. While in complex media which contains extract and digest of yeasts, meat & plants the precise chemical composition of medium is unknown amounts of individual components are undetermined & variable.
1.Synthetic Media :
Synthetic media is the first type of media which is comes undet the class of "Chemically Defined Media" which is prepared in artificial manner or simpl words aynthesizes in Laboratory in which the contents and composition of media is pure or prepared by only Organic & Inorganic Compounds where all contents or compunds are well known thats why its termed as "Chemically Synthetic Media". Where all molecules formula is always considered.
Key Point - All chemical are known ,no yeast, animal or plant tissue is present in it
Example : i) Glucose Salt Broth
                  ii) Inorganic Synthetic Broth

2.Non-Synthetic Media or Complex Media :
Non-Synthetic or Conplex media is defined as the presence in complex media contain ingredients that are chemically defined or pure forms i.e.animal extracts
These non-synthetic or complex type of media are rich in nutrients that contain water soluble extracts plant or animal tissues
e.g. enzymatically digest animal protein such as peptone & tryptone.
After adding glucose is added to serve main carbon & energy source nutrients broth,  Examples :
Nutrient Broth ,Tryptic Soy Broth, Chocolate agar & Blood agar.
                           Nutrient Broth                       Tryptic Soy Broth
                        Chocolate Agar
                               Blood Agar
